GENESEO, N.Y. -- Steven H. Shiffrin will be at SUNY Geneseo April 4th delivering the Department of Political Science and International Relations' legal affairs lecture, "The Dark Side of the First Amendment," from 4 - 5:30 p.m. in Newton Hall 213. The event is free and open to the public.
Shiffrin is the Charles Frank Reavis Sr. Professor of Law at Cornell Law School. He began his law school teaching career at UCLA in 1977. He has been a visiting professor of law at Boston University, Harvard University, Seattle University, and the University of Michigan. He joined the Cornell faculty in 1987.
Shiffrin is the author of "Dissent, Injustice, and the Meanings of America;" "The First Amendment, Democracy, and Romance;" and "The Religious Left and Church-State Relations." His writings have appeared in many publications, including the Cornell Law Review, the Harvard Law Review, the UCLA Law Review, Commonweal, the New York Times Book Review, and others. Winner of the Thomas J. Wilson Award, he is currently working on a new book, "What's Wrong with the First Amendment?"
