Law professor and author Steven H. Shiffrin will deliver this year's Department of Political Science and International Relations' legal affairs lecture on April 4, discussing "The Dark Side of the First Amendment."
Shiffrin is the Charles Frank Reavis Sr. Professor of Law at Cornell Law School and has been a visiting professor of law at Boston University, Harvard University, Seattle University, and the University of Michigan. He is the author of "Dissent, Injustice, and the Meanings of America;" "The First Amendment, Democracy, and Romance;" and "The Religious Left and Church-State Relations." His writings have appeared in many publications, including the Cornell Law Review and the Harvard Law Review. A winner of the Thomas J. Wilson Award, he is working on a new book, "What's Wrong with the First Amendment?"
