About the Program:

Ready for what comes next?  Prepare yourself for the new challenges and opportunities that you will encounter in the year after you graduate.  Attend our sessions designed to help you prepare for life after college.  Sessions are presented by guests or Geneseo alumni, faculty, and staff.

Apartment Hunting Essentials*

Whether you live on campus, on Court Street, or at home, it may be time for you to start thinking about where you will live after graduation.  Learn about your rights as a renter, how to work with a real estate agent or broker, and how to find an affordable apartment that suits your needs.  Planning for life after Geneseo now will help you avoid pitfalls down the road.  Afterwards, talk with our alumni panelists who can fill you in on what it is like to move in with your parents again, move in with roommates, or have a place all to yourself.

 

Life After College*

Ever wonder what your social life will be like after college?  How will relationships in the real world, including those with your family, compare to those you have while in college?  Worried about finding a faith community, interest group, or alumni program that is right for you?  Our panel can help you figure out what to expect after your college days have come to an end.  Whether you stay local or relocate, this session can help you stay linked to the people, places, and hobbies you enjoy most.

Are you intimidated by the very thought of building your professional network?  This is designed to get students started on becoming effective networkers under the guidance of Geneseo Alumni.  Business professional or business casual dress is required.  Session is limited to thirty participants, please register through GOLD.

 

How Much?!: Building a Budget*

Rent… utilities… cable bill… groceries… car payment… health insurance… drycleaning… wedding gifts… who knew how expensive being a grown up was?  Learn how to make ends meet with your new “grown up” salary.  Come hear from some experts about how to manage your money once you’ve left college.

 

Dinner Etiquette for Business & Social Settings*

Date:  Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Time:  6:00 - 8:00pm

Location:  MacVittie College Union Ballroom

Salad fork?  Seafood fork?  Napkin in the lap or tucked in the shirt like a bib?  What should be discussed or avoided in conversation?  Lunch or dinner during an interview is part of the interview process and the potential employer is observing and evaluating your behavior.  The evening will include a first-class dinner and dessert.  Our speakers will guide you through the experience and even provide valuable tips on appropriate conversation.  Business leaders will be hosts at each table.  This program requires payment of $5.00 by check payable to GOLD and submitted to Center for Community in MacVittie College Union Room 353 by February 22.


Seminar on Survival (SOS)*

Date:  Thursday, March 7, 2013

Time:  7:00pm

Location:  Newton 204

SOS features five alumni panelists, each an expert in their field: Lawyer, Human Resources Director, Certified Personal Financial Planner, Insurance Agent and Certified Personal Organizer.  Each panelist will discuss the most important issues facing young adults as pertains to their area of expertise.  This program focuses on real-life questions and concerns of Geneseo students about to graduate.
