"I, as a student, stand up against bias-related incidents because I don't want others to have to live in fear." - Will Labate, Student Association
"I stand up against bias-related incidents because I don't dig assumption. All of us are working really hard at becoming who we really are, so why not give everyone that opportunity for growth." - Rob White, Resident Assistant
Letter from VP Bonfiglio and Associate Professor and Co-Chair of Diversity Commission Monica E Schneider
Each member of our campus community is expected to share the responsibility for ensuring that our College is a welcoming, supportive place for all those who come to Geneseo to live, learn, teach and work. The President’s Commission on Diversity and Community was established in 1998 to help lead the campus in these efforts; however, striving to find ways to increase the representation of members of diverse groups at all levels of the College and ensuring that there are mechanisms in place to support and protect all of the members of our college community is beyond the work of any one group, committee or office. Every one of us (whether we are students, faculty, or staff) plays a major role in fostering a supportive campus climate. Moreover, every one of us has a responsibility to stand up for one another when we witness behaviors that contribute to a chilly climate or that target others in ways that make them feel unsafe or unwelcomed. To support these efforts, this website has been developed. We invite you to take this opportunity to review the content of this website. You will find links on how to report bias-related incidents as well as resources and materials that provide relevant information on how you can make a difference in fostering a more welcoming community at SUNY Geneseo. Through our actions, we can all contribute to the betterment of the Geneseo experience.
