This unique program provides students the opportunity to apply their spirit of volunteerism and their education in El Sauce, an economically disadvantaged community in Nicaragua. Program participants are guided and supervised as they live and work alongside residents of El Sauce. Service learning opportunities are available in the following areas: computer education, economic development, ecotourism, teaching English for adults or children, health services, marketing, small business development, youth education, and youth art and recreation. Students may spend two weeks in El Sauce during the January intersession. During the summer, students have the option of spending three, six or nine weeks in El Sauce. Students participating in the summer program are required to take a one-credit course about Nicaragua during the spring semester.
