Hello GEO! Thanks for a great first meeting back! Contents: 1. Open Announcements 2. Last semester recap 3. New subcommittees 4. Power Shift 2011, Washington D.C. April 15-17 5. Movie Night + Appetizers this Saturday, Marta's house! 1. Open Announcements Geneseo Outing Club is having their first meeting at 5:30 Tuesday in the Fireside Lounge. There will be brownies! If anyone is interested in joining the Sustainability Task Force. Meeting this Wednesday all College Free Hour. 2. Last semester recap -PVC-Free Campaign: Short-term goal- spread awareness about the poison plastic/vinyl/PVC. Long term goal- eradicate PVC from the Geneseo campus, especially the new building projects. -Windfarm: We went to the Cohocton Wind Farm. It was a great learning experience. -Water Bottle Event: We had a water bottle house in the union. The Geneseo Late Knight event was an unbelievable success! One of the best ones yet! -Kill a Watt Contest: Energy savings contest between the dorms. Results still pending... -Community Garden: More trips to come when the weather gets warmer. -Recycling Education: Goal for the semester is to put up signs about recycling plastics around campus and in the dorms. 3. New Subcommittees -The Student Expo is February 2 during All-College Free Hour. If you're interested in talking to potential members and would like to help out, please email us. -Live Green Day is February 9th from 11-2 in the Union Ballroom. GEO plans to have a table. If you're interested in helping out, please email us! What is Live Green Day? Several departments, student groups and environmental organizations plan activities and programs designed to inform and educate the campus community on creating a sustainable future through conservation and green initiatives. -Not a subcommittee, but we're thinking of getting GEO tees this semester. More information to follow... 4. PowerShift 2011 is at the RFK Stadium in Washington DC from April 15-18th (Note the date change, please! It's NOT during Ke$sha weekend). It's a national environmental conference filled with plenaries, musical guests, and ways to connect with other like-minded environmentalists, who are mostly college students. If you're interested in attending this amazing experience please contact us! If you would like to help with the planning, contact Hallie at hem2 or Garrett at gmb6. 5. We're having a GEO movie night with appetizers at Marta's house (52 Center Street, Apt. 2) on Saturday, 1/29 at 6pm. If you have any of the following movies on DVD please bring them! The Lorax, Food Inc., The Cove, Gasland, Wall-E, Nausicaa, LOTR 2, The End of Suburbia, Avatar, or anything else with an environment theme. Hope to see you then!
