Faculty, staff, and the orientation advisors will greet new students as they find their way to classes. Enjoy a breakfast bars and a warm welcome on the first day of Tuesday classes.

1:00 – 2:00 pm Leadership Concepts GOLD Leadership Center, MacVittie College Union, Room 114
Everyone has an opinion about leaders and what constitutes effective leadership. Everyone can be a leader and most of us will be called upon to lead at one time or another. Start or continue your leadership journey with this introductory session to the GOLD program and to the fascinating world of leadership concepts, myths, and possibilities. This required program serves as both an introduction and foundation to the leadership programs within the GOLD program. Within this highly interactive workshop, participants are asked to engage in a variety of activities. The activities range from self-reflection on what leadership means from a personal perspective, to identifying with leadership philosophies of a great number of leaders from both history and the present. Further, the instructor explains to the participants the nature and purpose of the GOLD program, the requirements for completion of the various certificates, and guides participants through a foundational understanding of what leadership is and what role everyone has to


2:30 – 3:30 pm SMART Goals  MacVittie College Union Room 322/323
Goals should be Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Relevant and Time-bound. Participants will learn how to create SMART goals and use them effectively to establish priorities that meet the needs of a group or organization. This workshop presents a strategy for creating and reviewing goals that is known as SMART. The application of the SMART goals strategy ensures that goals can be used by a person working on a short term or long term task. In addition, a person can guarantee that their task is fulfilled to the desired level of quality, while not wasting resources or time. Participants practice creating SMART goals and receive feedback from the instructor.

As an involved and active student, it can be challenging to fulfill the responsibilities of both the "student" and the "leader" parts of your life! This session, facilitated by an active student leader, will provide tips and strategies on reconfiguring your time to effectively balance your academic, social, and leadership lives.
