Real World Geneseo provides students with the opportunity to participate in an extreme learning environment. It blends both academic and experiential learning to provide a program that is comprised of an academic course, a four day retreat and an opportunity to take part in a service learning project.
A highlight of the program are Real World Geneseo’s high impact four day retreats, which are focused on building a strong foundation for cultural competency within the Geneseo community. Through various workshops, presentations, and discussions students from diverse backgrounds explore issues related to power, privilege, class, gender, race, sexual orientation and ableism. The activities allow participants to examine how these issues affect both their academic and co-curricular lives on campus and beyond. Past participants have identified the program as a means of providing an opportunity for introspection of their core values and beliefs.
This year's Real World Geneseo will be held at the end of Winter Break on January 15th- 18th 2015 at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Rochester. There is no cost for the program. Students will meet at the hotel or will be picked up at the airport or bus station. Students will be transported back to Geneseo on Sunday January 18th.
