The Anchor Spring 2002

Hello AKPhi Alumnae!

It's your Alumnae Secretary, Caryn Leonardo, bringing you the news from not only the Spring semester, but from Fall 2001 too. We're very sorry that The Anchor did not make it out last semester, but I promise, this edition will include information about the entire year, so get ready to be updated!

Rush, Final Bids & Pledging

Our Formal was held at the Avon Inn on February the 26th. Dirty Rush was on February the 28th with Phi Kap. Final Bids was on March the 2nd with Sig Tau. It was a wonderful night! Thanks to all the alums who came up! We gave bids to 30 (now 29) amazing girls who are currently in the fourth week of pledging. Laura Luley, our trusty Pledge Mistress, is doing a fantastic job, along with her ever-faithful Assistant, Stephanie Noah.

Spring Weekend

Spring Weekend is fast approaching! Mark your calendars because it's sooner than you think. It's May 3rd and 4th. Friday night is a party with Phi Kap at the Ago house. Saturday we have a four-way with Sig Tau, Phigs and Phi Lamb, and yes, Bangers will be there too. There's a party with Sig Tau at the Ago house that night. We hope to see you there!!!

House Updates

26 Wads has been re-vamped this year! The foyer has been painted a light blue, and stencils have been added above the front door. The credenza was painted white and stenciled as well. Each bedroom has been painted. New letters are hanging in the front window. All of these improvements thanks to Spring '99. In August, new carpet was put in the Addition, along with two new sets of bunk beds. The Yellow Room also received one new bunk bed. A new couch was purchased at the beginning of Spring semester. Along with these changes, came a larger one. As of this year, the Ago house and property has been overseen by a property management company called the Facilities Services Group. Corporation hired this group to oversee all repairs and monthly maintanence.

In the Fall, Laura Luley continued to do a fantastic job as Volunteer Coordinator. I served as Secretary and got to hang out with Laura. Mackenzie Crick was elected as Treasurer for the Spring. Congratulations Mackenzie!

Study Abroad

We missed our beautiful sister Laura Gabriel when she studied in London last semester, but now she's back in Geneseo and hanging out with her fellow Spring 2000 friends. Our wonderful sister Rachel Schoolman decided to study in Greece this semester. We're all jealous of your tan!

Ago Updates!

Kimberly (Laskie) Ostrow ('95) just recieved her PhD in Biochemistry from Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She now works at SUNY Buffalo in the School of Medicine and Biochemical Sciences doing brain tumor research.

Hong (Nguyen) Kuntz, who graduated in Spring '98, has joined the AKPhi Corporation as President.

Iliana (Rodriguez) Meister ('97) recently got married to Brian Meister, a Geneseo alum. She is currently finishing up her masters work at Buffalo Stete University.

Courtney Roth, Kristen McNaboe and Julie Parlato, who graduated in Spring 2001, are living together in the Park Ave area of Rochester. Courtney is working as a Human Resources Assistant/FSA Administrator at Pictometry International Corp. in Rochester. She's studying Human Resource Management and Graphic Design at R.I.T. Kristen is working part-time at the Pittsford Pub and attending ahir school full-time. Julie is going to school for her teaching degree.

Krista Lines and Carmen DeFazio, who also graduated in Spring '01, live in the Corn Hill area of Rochester. Krista is teaching in the Gates School District and Carmen is teaching in the Rochester City school district.

Emily Sossei ('01) is living at home in Connecticut. She is a Marketing Assistant at MBI, Inc. in the Easton Press Division.

Rosemary (Nigro) Tomaso ('93) and Sig Tau alum husband Jeff had a baby girl- Avery Grace- in May 2001.

Linda (Peyton) Tullo ('93) and husband Miles had a baby boy, Miles.

Mary Tsikalakis ('93) married Rudy Bistrovich on August 4, 2001.

Janine (Ferrante) Hobbes ('93) and her husband Terry had a baby girl, Sara Elizabeth, in December.

Tanya (Boellman) Cutrone ('93) and her husband Mike had a baby girl, Tatiana, last November.

Lisa Kull ('88) is living in Melbourne, Australia, but she's coming back to Rochester this summer.

Jane (Bucci) O'Brien ('89) is living with her Sig Ep husband George in Smithtown, Long Island. They have two children, Patrick (6 1/2) and Rose (3 1/2). She's a school psychologist working with Early Intervention.

Homecoming 2001!

We had an awesome turnout in the Fall for Homecoming. Agos from the classes of '91, '93, and '94 took Geneseo by storm. They partied like rock stars at the Ago house and ended the night dancing on the bar at the I.B.! Some things never change! Thanks to all of you who came to hang out for the weekend.

AKPhi Milne Scholarship

There is currently a scholarship in our name at Geneseo. Several years ago, AKPhi corporation donated $5,000 to the Geneseo Fund and a special scholarship was created. When the fund reaches maturity at $10,000, the guidelines for the scholarship will be determined and the money will be given to the first recipient. When donating to the Geneseo Fund, please consider the Alpha Kappa Phi Milne Scholarship! Help us reach our $10,000 goal!

Loops for Lupus

Thank you to everyone who has donated money to the Lupus Foundation. There has been an overwhelming response from alumnae. Please- if you are interested in donating, check out the information on the web page. We will be putting updates about the fundraiser on the web page as well.

Response to September 11

As a sorority, we were deeply affected by the tragedy of 9/11. As a result of this, we organized a vigil on Main Street on Sept. 14th. At the Ago house, candles and flags were sold for the vigil. The money was donated to the American Red Cross. There are pictures of the vigil on our web page. Also, on Saturday the 15th, we helped to run a blood drive put on by I.G.C. and held at the College Union.
