The Anchor Spring 2005

Hello AKPhi Alumni!

Hello everyone, this is your Alumni Secretary Erin Giralico, aka Miss G. What a great year this has been for Alpha Kappa Phi, full of fun times and a lot of memories! It is now your favorite time of year, to get caught up on all of the new and exciting information from your favorite sorority, AKPhi J

Rush, Final Bids and Pledging

This year marked the first year AKPhi took a fall pledge class. Our fall formal, on September 15th, was at Villa on the Green. Dirty Rush stacked the cards on September 23rd which had a “casino” theme. Final bids was then on September 25th with the Phigs fraternity. Our pledge mistress Jill Simoni, and assistant Courtney Parish, helped along a pledge class of eleven new sailors.

Due to some changes in the Inter Greek Council’s constitution, some alterations had to be made to the spring rush program. We had two informals, with the fun “AGO sleepover” theme. Our formal was on February 6th at the Yard of Ale. Dirty Rush was taken out of the constitution, which then led us right up to Final Bids on February 12th, with the lovely brothers of Sig Tau. Emily Roemmelt as our pledge mistress, and Emilie Bock as assistant, led a wonderful pledge class of two little sailors. What a busy year!

Spring Weekend

Spring Weekend is arriving fast! We would love to see as many alumni as possible come to the festivities this year, so plan on joining us on Saturday, April 30th for tons of fun. There will be wine and cheese at the AGO house from 12pm until 2pm. We will then have our annual four-way party with the Phi Lambs, Phigs, and Sig Taus during the day accompanied by live music. Then to end the night off right, we are getting together again with the Sig Tau brothers at the AGO house at 9:30pm, so get your drinking shoes ready!

Ago House Fund

As always, it is important to us to receive donations to help with the upkeep of our house, but this year it is going to be more important than ever. We may have some massive repairs to do this summer due to water damage from the upstairs bathroom. Fundraising letters will go out within the next month or so. Please consider donating whatever you can so that we can continue to keep our house functioning! Without your support, it will be a challenge to maintain the structural integrity of the house, as well as the cosmetic features. If you have any questions please let us know. We would also appreciate any suggestions, especially who we should do business with!

Alpha Kappa Phi- Milne Scholarship

We only need $1,303 to be the only sorority at Geneseo that offers a scholarship to its members. Awarding this scholarship would be an amazing way to mark 120 years of sisterhood. The scholarship fund is set up through the Geneseo Foundation, and if you donate regularly, or if you only want to donate once, please consider directing a contribution to our scholarship if they contact you via mail or phone. All you have to do is specify that you want a piece or your entire gift to be allocated to the Alpha Kappa Phi – Milne Scholarship. These donations are tax deductible and many employers have matching programs. http://foundation.geneseo.edu

Goodbye 12 Court :(

Due to the Livingston County Jail expansion plans, the town has bought both 12 Court, the Junior AGO house, and 10 Court, the Sig Tau house. Many memories have been created at 12 Court and will never be forgotten!

Homecoming 2005

Clear your calendars - Homecoming fall 2005 is the 120th Anniversary of the Agonian Sorority. We are trying to organize the largest reunion of Ago Alumni EVER! We will be sending out invitations in the coming months. Any suggestions on how to make this a wonderful and memorable weekend are welcome!

Philanthropies

AKPhi takes pride in choosing numerous charity events each semester. Last fall, together as a sorority, we participated in the “Adopt A Family” program where we were able to help a less fortunate family for the Christmas season. Each sister helped brighten this family’s Christmas day by donating gifts, clothing, toys, and books.
