BUSINESS OWNERSHIP TRAINING COURSE:
(formally the MAP Program)
a 10 week course offered every spring and fall
Professor James Grillo of Alfred State College teaches a fast-paced, highly informative business course for owners or prospective entrepreneurs. Jim is a business owner himself and he brings to the class hands-on experience that is invaluable. Past participants speak highly of this class and the benefits they derived from taking it:

The course covers all aspects of owning and managing a business including:
- Creating a Business Plan
- Business Ownership
- Taxes, Insurance, Legal issues
- Financing
- Marketing, Sales

- Recordkeeping, Accounting
- Employee Issues
- Computer applications, E-commerce
Technical Assistance:
Individual consultations can be made available to income eligible MAP graduates and DRP participants who request help in the following areas:
- Development of a formal business plan
- Marketing
- Recordkeeping
Selection of Participants
Enrollment in the Business Ownership Course is limited and selection can be competitive. Participants are required to complete an application and selection will be based on:
- Clearly identified vision of business goals
- Level of motivation and skills needed
- Commitment to working hard for business success
- Life experience
- Potential of business to create jobs
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Seminars highlighting specific areas of interest will be offered FREE to income eligible MAP graduates and DRP clients throughout the year. Participants will have the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and network with business owners from other MAP classes. Topics could include:
- Marketing
- Planning for Profit
- Accounting and Record Keeping
- E-Commerce
