Miss Cardoso's Philosophy of Education

I have chosen the career of teaching because I truly want to make a difference in the lives of children and the lives that stand before them. I believe that students learn and grow the most in an environment where they feel as though their opinions and ideas are respected and that they are valued as individuals. Teachers, in my opinion, are responsible for creating such an environment within their classroom. Teachers have the responsibility of encouraging and supporting their students to reach their fullest potential. As a teacher I hope to create such an environment and instill upon my students a feeling of self-worth, while reminding them that education is the key to success in life. I genuinely believe that each and every student has something to contribute and is an invaluable asset to our society.

In today's society there is an immense amount of diversity, be it racially, ethnically, or financially. I believe it is pivotal that teachers be, not only, sensitive to the numerous diversities that can and most definitely will exist within their classroom, but be also open minded and accepting. By being open minded to both diversity of character and ideas, I will work to remind students that they truly can achieve any goal. In doing so I hope to spark intrinsic motivation within each student in order for them to gain the necessary knowledge they need to succeed, not only as a student, but as a member of society. All the while, I must remind myself that I stand just as much to gain from my students as they do from me, as a teacher.
