Finance
Business studies minor with an emphasis in finance. You must take Acct 102 (Financial Accounting) and Mgmt 100 (Society and Business); choose Mgmt 311 (Managerial Finance) followed by Mgmt 312 (Advanced Managerial Finance) and Mgmt 313 (Security Valuation and Analysis). For your fourth elective course, take Acct 103 (Managerial Accounting) or Mgmt 316 (International Finance). Choose Econ/Mgmt 325 (Money and Financial Intermediation) as one of your economics electives.Pre-MBA
Business studies minor. One option is the finance emphasis suggested above; another is to take course that may allow you to waive courses in your MBA program. Economics majors considering graduate school in economics should take as many math courses as possible. Economics graduate programs require, at minimum, 3 semesters of calculus (Math 221, 222, 223), 1 semester of statistics (Econ 202 or Math 360), and linear algebra (Math 233). Differential equations (Math 326) and real analysis (Math 324) are strongly recommended. anyone considering graduate study should take Math 221 rather than Math 213 and consider continuing the calculus sequence. You also might want to consider a minor in Math, which requires 6 courses: Math 221 or 213, Math 222, and four additional courses from Math 223, 233, 237, and 300-level electives.Those individuals planning on graduate study in economics should also consider The Economics Honors Sequence. Enrollment in the Economics Honors Sequence requires a 3.3 overall GPA, a 3.3 GPA in economics, and the approval of the professor you wish to work with. You will take Econ 293, Honors Seminar in Economics I, in the fall of your senior year, and Econ 393, Honors Seminar in Economics II, in the spring of your senior year, and complete a thesis under the direction of an economics professor. It is recommended that you take Econ 301 (Econometrics) in your junior year. Students must complete Econ 293 successfully to continue in the Honors Seminar. Econ 293 does not count as an economics elective but Econ 393 does.
