On September 12, 1997, Isidro Bosch, SUNY Geneseo Biology professor, and David Krakowski, a Geneseo undergraduate student working with Dr. Bosch, embarked on a 7000 mile journey due south to the Antarctic continent.  The trip took several days, by air to a port at the southern tip of Chile and then by ship from Chile to Palmer Station, Antarctica, a United States research station located on a large island off the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula (see map Image 1). This research station will be their home for the next 3 months. An account of their experiences during this trip and the scientific research they conduct on the effects of ozone depletion on Antarctic marine life, as told by David Krakowski, can be viewed at this site.
