Alpha Chi Rho is a national men's collegiate fraternity. Since it was founded in 1895 at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, Alpha Chi Rho has grown tremendously. Chapters can be found across the entire nation, with many in the Northeast, within a close proximity to SUNY Geneseo. The principles and ideals that the fraternity was founded on are still the ideals most dear to Alpha Chi Rho Brothers. These principles and ideals include the four landmarks, as well as our exoteric motto, pronounced "An Dreeth Es Tay," meaning: BE MEN. A more comprehensive history is taught to every postulant entering the bond of Brotherhood.
Benefits of Fraternity Life
Brotherhood
What happens when a group of men embrace the Landmarks of Alpha Chi Rho can be called a Brotherhood. As a Brother of AXP, you know that each member will support you in all endeavors. An Alpha Chi Rho Brother is recognized in Geneseo and throughout the country by fellow AXP men.
Brothers of Alpha Chi Rho maintain friendships with old friends and new. Becoming a Brother doesn't mean you have to abandon your life outside of the fraternity. Rather, what we bring from the outside is what makes your experience better.
Leadership
An AXP man is a leader. While we as Brothers work in a communal fashion, we remain individuals. Therefore an AXP man learns to lead his Brothers.
Community Service
All Greeks in Geneseo are encouraged to participate in community services which include: the Alzheimer's walk, Domestic violence walk and donations to domestic violence charities, can food drives, and day of caring. This can be a great way to meet new people and give something back to the community. Nationally, we support 4 philanthropies: American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Feed the Children, Autism Society of America.
Social Life
Beginning in the Postulant period and continuing throughout your college career and AXP man will meet hundreds of people. The fraternity house is our place to gather. It is where we can unwind, have a good time and get away from on-campus like whenever we like. Brothers in the house pay rent to live there, however it is still for all brothers to use their own leisure.
Any question or concerns please fell free to contact any of the Brothers. We are happy to explain our organization more and answer your questions.

The
Postulant Period (AKA pledging):
On
Becoming a Postulant, a man surrenders none of his legal or
social rights, none of his family or personal ties, and none
of his moral or religous ideals or standards. A Postulant is
elected because the Brothers saw a worthy member in him who,
by his future achievements, would uphold and add to the Fraternity's
good name.
A
Fraternity is more than a group of men wearing the same letters.
It is "...a workshop in brains and emotions where a man
may serve in 4 years an apprenticeship for life. It is the sum
of memories stored up by generations of alumni, plus the cumulative
experience from freshmen to senior year. It is the helping hand."
(Robert J Miller, Phi Delta Theta)

This symbol, made up of the Greek letters X (Chi) and P (Rho), appears
on both the Postulant badge and the ensign (flag) of the fraternity. It
was originally adopted by the Emperor Constantine, who seeing it in the
sky on the eve of a battle against a Christian army, heard what he believed
to be the voice of God. The voice said, "In hoc signo vincens",
or "In this sign you shall conquer". He then joined the Christians
to become the first Christian Emperor of the Roman Empire. The Labarum
was thereafter carried as the special badge of the Imperial Roman Army.
The Labarum was an early Christian symbol for Christ.
The
Brothers Badge
The
other form of the Labarum is its modified configuration, which is significantly
in the Ritual of the Fraternity. Also, it is a form used on the Brother's
Badge. The Badge is made up of a modified Labarum mounted on an oval;
a torch and hand extended from the center of the Labarum. The meaning
of the Badge is esoteric (secret) and known only to Brothers.
The
Crest
The
shield is made up of a garnet colored St. Andrew's cross, bisected by
a shepherd's crook, on a silver background, with a torch either side of
the crook. On the top left hand corner of the shield is a small blue field
containing three gold crowns- the coat of arms of Trinity College, where
our mother chapter was founded. Underneath the shield can be seen the
hilt of a sword, and the top of a shepherd's crook. The shield is crowned
by a helmet from which emanates a hand with a seven-pointed star on its
wrist. The motto can be seen below the shield.
