Isopods

Many are terrestrial crustaceans found in rotting wood, under stones, crawling on your house and, in some cases, in your house. They will chew on wood but for the most part are of little consequence and are benefical for their role in the breakdown of leaf litter and other plant material. Some researchers will use them to clean the flesh from dead animals as part of the process of cleaning skeletons for study and mounting.
