Testimonials from the Classes of 2000 and 2001
I can say that I am thoroughly pleased with the quality and breadth of education that I received here at Geneseo. Overall, I am impressed with the professors in both the chemistry and biology departments - their attention to students outside of class, their impressive command of the subject material...The number and diveristy of courses offered here is also staggering. In fact, I only wish I had more room in my schedule to take more of these courses!
I have found my education at Geneseo to be enjoyable and rewardng. I attribute most of this to the attitude generated by the school and the professors. I came to Geneseo interested in learning and I found it was an excellent place to do so.
I feel that I have received an excellent education while attending Geneseo. My education was intense, competitive and well worth the hard work that it has taken to make it this far. I feel that I have become more self-motivated and prepared to go to graduate school, or enter the job field with the education that I have received.
...somewhere in between all of the fun parties and lasting friendships and all of the nights of stressing out and cryng over things that I don't even remember now, I learned a lot of biochemistry.
I feel that the biochemistry major has done its job in transforming me from a biochemistry student to a biochemist. I have been able to handle research experiences in other institutions and in the "real world" and hold my own against Ivy leaguers, who are amazed at how much I have learned from a public education that has not left my parents bankrupt!
My education at SUNY Geneseo has been a wonderful experience. The college has offered a learning environment that is smaller, and therefore, much more personal, than other institutions I have become familiar with. As students we are valued, and are taken seriously: as undergraduates, no less! The education itself has been first rate, providng me with knowledge, understanding, and innovation to move on to a successful scientific career, either academic or private.
I think that the strongest aspects of the program relate to the chemistry and biology professors and to the structure of the courses themselves. I am confident in saying that the courses here teach pertinent information and give a solid background on the foundations of the major subjects in chemistry and biology.
This semester I participated in a semester at sea program in which part of my course work consisted of devising an oceanography research topic with a partner, carrying out that research at sea, and writing a scientific paper. I considered it no big deal and was amazed at how I knew exactly what each section of the paper should include...I realized that everything I learned came from the past three years of science and lab classes at Geneso.
The most rewarding interacting learning of biochemistry was through my independent research experience...Geneseo has given me a well-built and complete foundation of the natural sciences that will enable me to successfully practice medicine.
The experience I have had working on research at Geneseo has been invaluable. Research develops independence, laboratory and otherwise, and teaches one more about science than any lab course possibly could.
Having been through the rigors of the program together, there exists great respect and affability between students...There is an atmosphere of cooperative learning in most biochemistry classes. Due to this camaraderie, many friendships develop between students. |
