2012 Service Trip: Orlando, Florida during March Spring Break
A new project offered by Livingston CARES is an alternative break trip to Give Kids The World Village (GKTW) near Orlando (Kissimmee), FL. GKTW is a non-profit organization that partners with wish-granting organizations (like the Make-A-Wish Foundation) to provide a respite vacation for children with life-threatening illnesses (and their families).
Some of the work students on this trip may perform includes:
o Serving meals and scooping ice cream
o Operating rides and supervising attractions in the Village
o Providing child-care and babysitting for a parent respite
o Participate in evening entertainment programs in the Village
o Equine therapy and work projects such as painting and small repair
Students will also engage in readings, lectures, and discussions during the week.
The trip will be led by Dr. David Parfitt, Director, Teaching and Learning Center

Time and time again, we hear from volunteers returning from work trips "How can I stay involved after my week in Biloxi?" It is in our mission to aid in humanitarian efforts, and this includes local projects. We are planning to expand in the Livingston County area to keep our volunteers involved!
We are currently beginning a partnership with Catholic Charities and the "Home Safe Home" project, which helps keep senior citizens safe in their homes by installing safety railings, ramps, grab bars, etc. These will likely be weekend projects-- designed to keep the momentum and energy of volunteers going, outside of Biloxi. Check back here for more details.
Our next upcoming project is "Geneseo Goes to Town" that will involve matching SUNY Genseo student groups with an organization in each town and village in Livingston County for a volunteer project on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Interested stuident organizaitons and groups and community organizations should contact Kay Fly <fly@geneseo.edu> at the SUNY Geneseo Volutneer Center to schedule the work day projects.
Don't have a whole week to give? Already have plans for Spring Break? If you are interested in volunteering, we suggest using the resources of SUNY Geneseo Volunteer Center. On their page you will find local, short-term, or ongoing volunteer projects in a variety of areas-- from Habitat for Humanity, to Horse Rescue, and working with children. www.volunteer.geneseo.edu
