Some of the benefits of joining the Geneseo Crew Team:
Is experience necessary?
Absolutely not! Many of the members of the team have no experience before joining the team here at Geneseo. We will teach you what you need to know in order to become a successful rower or coxswain.
Where and what time is practice?
The team's boathouse is located at Longpoint Park on Conesus Lake (about 5 miles away from campus). Practice is from 5:15-7:30AM, five days a week during both the fall and spring seasons, in addition to occasional Saturday practices. In the winter, the team practices together three days a week indoors at 6:30AM until the lake thaws.
What is the time committment?
Although crew is considered a club sport, the team treats itself like a varsity sport; all practices are mandatory. Regattas (races) are held on the weekends during the months of late September through the end of October for the fall season, and late March through until early May during the spring season. The team travels to four regattas on average each season. In addition, indoor rowing practices are held occasionally on weekends at Pittsford Tanks. And lastly, the team trains in South Carolina during the week of spring break.
How much does it cost?
Since the team is a club sport, rather than varsity, much of the money generated from year-to-year is paid by the team members themselves. Average costs include...
Fall Dues: $90
Spring Training & Dues: $250
Uniform: $50
Who is in charge of the team?
The team has an Academic Advisor and Coach who works in conjunction with the students on issues including pratices, boatings, racing lineups, and other important issues. This individual works with the governing body called the Executive Board which includes a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Mean's and Women's Captain; each year, members of the team are elected to serve on the Executive Board.
