Minutes of CTAG meeting #2
October 15, 2:30 pm
South 209
-
Bob Simon called the meeting to order and announced that meetings will
rotate to allow the committee to see many different campus rooms -- including
smart classrooms. Meetings will be run on the Biology department model:
decisions will be made on a modified concensus basis (somewhere between
simple majority and total concensus) and all sub-committee meetings are
open to any members of CTAG, and anyone attending has voting privileges.
-
Melanie Blood foolishly volunteered to be recording secretary.
-
The committee will plan to hold 1 meeting per semester as an open forum
to which all members of the campus community are invited.
-
The mission of four sub-committees for the 1999-2000 academic year was
debated. Each committee is centered on one issue, with several more issues
on our horizon. (For more detail on the issues, see Bob Simon's handouts)
-
Issue #1 The commonality and guaranteed availability of software that is
used on campus
-
Issue #2 Formulation of procedures for computer replacement/purchase on
campus
-
Issue #3 Examine network structure and establish a plan to develop our
basic communications infrastructure
-
Issue #4 Develop standards that define the college's external web presence/intranet
-
-
Each of these four committees will research the issue, the relevent software/hardware,
interview other campuses and formulate one and two year plans.
-
Each sub-committee will report back to the CTAG committee as a whole
-
CTAG will meet approximately every three weeks, and each subcommittee will
meet once in the intervening time. Chair Bob Simon will meet once with
each subcommittee, after which time the committee will function on its
own, with its own chair and recording secretary.
-
Along with the four sub-committees, the CTAG committee will consider technology
issues that are quickly and easily solved, or fing "small solutions". It
was pointed out that we need to be careful not to make all problems within
the mission of CTAG, or to step on departments' or individuals' technological
toes. CTAG is advisory body to the Provost on campus-wide issues.
Respectfully submitted,
Melanie Blood
