The College Technology Advisory Group is considering whether to recommend that the College identify, provide, and support computer software that is "universally available and maintained" for all members of the College community. We are currently collecting information to gauge the extent to which the community wants universally available and maintained software.

"Universally available" means that the College would use its resources to purchase, lease, or site license software that would be placed on all public access computers on campus, and on departmental and faculty/staff computers if appropriate and requested.

"Maintained" means that the CIT support staff would install the software, be trained to answer questions about it, and would offer training sessions for faculty, staff, and students on using the software.

Units within the College with specialized software needs that justify support but not College-wide universal availability could arrange such support with CIT. Furthermore, software that is not designated as universally available and maintained could continue to be purchased and used by those who wanted it, but the College would have no obligation to purchase, install, or otherwise support such software.
