PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH FACILITIES: The Geography degree program has
been divided into five specialty areas: Systematic Human Geography,
Physical Geography, Area Studies, and Graphics and Spatial Analysis.  The
Environmental Studies and Urban Studies programs are administered from
within the Geography department.  Study abroad, internships, and active research
participation with faculty members are encouraged.
Facilities include apparatus for field surveys and climatic
study, a complete cartography laboratory with modern equipment,
optical equipment for the enlargement and reduction of maps and
remotely sensed images, microcomputer software for digital mapping
and image analysis, a large format digitizer, and photographic
support services.  The Department also has specialized
microcomputing equipment to support the activities of the remote
sensing, GIS, and cartography courses.  The College maintains
several computing facilities in the building
housing Geography.  A large collection of topographic maps, aerial
photos, satellite imagery, and digital data are housed within the
Geography department.
Geneseo's Geography Department has maintained a high standard
of quality.  Approximately 50 percent of the graduates go on to
prestigious graduate programs in geography, and are usually awarded
research or teaching assistantships.  The majority of graduates
find employment with local, state, and federal governmental
agencies, or with private mapping and environmental analysis firms.
