GOLD Mission Statement
The Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development program seeks to prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities in service to the college and the global community. Our mission is accomplished through education, development, and training of students in an extensive series of personal development programs, institutes, leadership certificates, service learning, volunteer work, and active engagement in college and community life.

This session will focus on evaluating your college career and preparing you for life after Geneseo. Learn how to identify soft skills and transferable skills you've built as a student and employee and how to communicate those to a future employer or graduate program. Leadership Styles (Silver Certificate Requirement)

Each individual has a leadership style that he/she prefers to use and to follow. It is valuable to recognize that different situations call for different leadership styles. In this interactive workshop you will learn about different leadership styles and you will review some of the effective uses of these leadership styles.

The fifth annual Live Green Expo will include informational tables staffed by several local college and community green initiatives ranging from the Geneseo Community Garden to exhibits featuring new fuel efficient vehicles. Students in the GOLD Program and the Leadership in Community Engagement and Social Justice Certificate will earn credit in the program by engaging in conversations with the exhibitors. Rochester Roots: Using Locally Grown Food (Bronze) or (Jade)

Rochster Roots is a not-for-profit organization that advocates for a food-secure community by improving access to locally grown, seasonal produce that is safe, nutritious and cultural acceptable, and by empowering all people to actively participate in the decision-making process of their food system. Rochester Roots promotes environmental stewardship and the responsible use of the earth's resources.

Caring for the Earth: Perspectives from Different Faith Traditions, will feature an interfaith panel of religious leaders from the greater Rochester area. Panelists will discuss environmental issues from different faith perspectives.The panelists n November who have been invited back include: Dr. Abu Islam, Catholic Muslim Alliance; Mr. Mike Sauter, Director of Catholic Campus Ministry; and Mr. Elliot Zenilman, Residence Director, B.A. Judaic Studies.
Community Engagement and Social Justice Activity Preparation (Diamond Certificate Requirement)

Leaders recognize they are part of a larger social community, and any problems of that community are therefore also problems for the individual leader. Students pursuing this leadership certificate may choose to either work on a community project with a local agency or engage in multiple activities related to a social justice issue. This session is designed to help you work through the process of deciding which tract to follow and what types of projects or issues will be the best fit for your interests and timeframe. We will help you define the nature of the service and activities you will be doing and help you develop an engagement plan.

Volunteerism, Engagement, and Service (Sapphire Certificate Requirement)

Volunteerism is an active form of exercising leadership for the common good. This session is an introduction to volunteerism, community engagement, and service learning. You will learn a conceptual framework for volunteer service and explore the myriad of opportunities to volunteer in the Geneseo and Greater Livingston and Monroe County area or the Livingston County CARES programs and projects in Harrison County, Mississippi. Learn how to get the most out of your volunteer experience by choosing a volunteer and service opportunity that will benefit you, as well as the recipients.

Pearls of Wisdom from Successful Leaders: Selling Yourself in the Career Marketplace-How to Build Your "Brand" (Emerald) (Business PD Event)

This discussion will focus on how to "package" yourself as you navigate the career marketplace, market your assets and develop and implement a business plan. Learn how the relationship building skills you've acquired both in and outside of the classroom, coupled with a well-developed business plan, can provide the foundation for a successful career. The instructor will discuss life lessons and how a BA in Economics & Finance and participation in college athletics have led to a successful 20+ year career in the insurance wholesale industry.
