About Us

Who we are

The SUNY Geneseo Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We share its mission to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the world. Our volunteers--representing people of various backgrounds, races, and religions--work together to provide safe, affordable, and decent housing to families in need.

What we do

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses. Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor -- sweat equity -- into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

What you can do to help us

Geneseo Habitat needs the help of students like you, who are interested in helping out families in need. By volunteering your time and spirit, you can help us to build/repair houses, fundraise for supplies, and organize ourselves. We look forward to working with you.
