Once upon a time...

On November 4, 2006, they headed out to the Finger Lakes to see the fall foliage, which was pretty much gone by this time of the year. First, they made a pit stop at the East View Mall so that Bridgette could buy Aaron his birthday gift. Once Bridgette had Aaron's gift securely hidden in the back seat, they made their way to the bluff of Keuka Lake, a place they had never been before.

The drive was pleasant and the company was lovely. The whole time Bridgette was thinking about how wonderfully God had blessed her with such a man as Aaron. She thought about how wonderful it was to just be able to relax and feel so comfortable with him. She wondered when Aaron was going to ask her father about marrying her and wondered when he was going to get the ring. Aaron, on the other hand, was much more tense. He kept wondering if Bridgette would actually say "yes." Over and over in his head he wondered if he would find the right place to propose.

Once they reached the bluff, they turned up a steep road and headed for the only thing on the map, an historic chapel. Half way up the hill sat Garrett Memorial Chapel, a little Gothic-styled building just at the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the water. They grabbed the camera and made their way through the wrought iron fence.

"This would be such a nice place to get married," Bridgette exclaimed.

"I don't know about that, but I can propose to you here," Aaron said to himself as they snooped around the building. Finally they made their way down a rounded staircase and along a stone path. It was there where Aaron began to tell Bridgette how special she was to him and how happy he was to have her in his life. He began to pray, thanking God for all that He had done for them. Aaron was shaking, but blamed it on the cold weather, as he ended the prayer by saying "and God give me the strength I need to propose to Bridgette."

Within the couple of seconds that it took for Aaron to kneel down Bridgette thought, "Propose? Is he crazy? He didn't even buy the ring yet, or ask my dad…Huh! He's actually proposing!"

Aaron, with tears in his eyes, opened up the little ring box and began to say, "Bridgette, will you- "

"Yes!" Aaron claims that Bridgette cut him off before he could ever ask her if she would be his wife and make him the happiest man in the world. Bridgette just remembers that it took him too long to kneel down because of his bad knees and too long to get the question asked because of his southern drawl.

After putting the ring on her finger, Aaron led Bridgette by the hand around the rest of the chapel. This was the best birthday gift Aaron could have ever asked for. The sun began to set as they drove off into the horizon.
