I am a biogeographer interested in the relationship between natural disturbances, human activity and forested landscapes. My current work focuses on paleo-fire regimes in dry coniferous forests of the Inland Pacific Northwest in eastern Washington. These ecosystems are dominated by Pinus ponderosa (Ponderosa pine) and Pseudotsuga menziesii (Douglas-fir), and have been characterized by frequent, low-severity surface fires in the past. I am using GIS to explore the spatio-temporal variability of fire in these forests.
