Children of Heaven (Iran, 1997; 88 min.)
Thursday, October 26,, 2006 – 7:00 p.m. – Newton Hall 204

Set in modern-day Iran, this is the beautifully filmed and moving story of eight-year-old Ali and his younger sister, Zahra. When Ali loses Zahra's only pair of shoes, the siblings—too scared to tell their father—devise a plan to alternately wear Ali’s battered sneakers. The film revolves around Ali’s efforts to recover Zahra’s shoes, or get her a new pair. A fascinating view of a brother-sister relationship in a culture where childhood means something very different than it
does in the United States. In Persian with English subtitles.
