Descripción del curso y sus objectivos.  Este curso está destinado a introducir los/las estudiantes de español al mundo de la literatura hispánica.  Durante el semestre nos concentraremos en los tres principales géneros literarios (la narrativa, la poesía, y el drama), aprenderemos la terminología y los métodos necesarios para el análisis de textos literarios, y desarrollaremos estrategias para la lectura crítica de ellos.  La asistencia y la participación, así como la preparación en casa, son absolutamente necesarias.

PLEASE NOTE THIS COURSE´S POLICIES:
1) A policy of no make-ups on assignments and exams will be followed, except in documented cases of
medical or family emergency.
2) All assignments are due at the beginning of class on the dates assigned, in printed form.
NO E-MAILED ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED, unless previously announced by the instructor that an assignment must be submitted via email. The grade of any assignment delivered late will be lowered 10 points for every week day delayed.
3) In response to the increased amount of time it is taking to respond to e-mails, this semester I am continuing an e-mail reduction policy. If at all possible, save questions for class time.

If you would like to schedule an appointment with me (during office hours or at other times), please send me an email indicating all the days/times you are available to meet for at least the following week. I will reply with the date/time that is also convenient to me. If you must cancel an appointment, if at all possible please notify me at least 24 hours in advance. If you wish to reschedule a meeting, please keep in mind that I may not be able to meet again for another week.
5) Extra credit will be considered toward your Class Participation grade. Approved extra credit-earning events/activities will be listed in the myCourses page for this course. To receive extra credit, you must submit a typewritten, one-page, double-spaced reaction paper, en español, about the event/activity in which you participated, and an authorized signature, such as the event´s organizer or presenter. A maximum of 4 extra-credit points toward your class participation grade will be awarded.
6) NO CELL PHONE USE IS ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM, unless there is a confirmed family, personal, medical or security emergency.
