Auditions

General Information

Where:Alice Austin Theatre

When: 01/24/09(Saturday): 6:30 PM, and 01/25/09(Saturday): 10:00 AM

What: 16 to 32 measures of a musical theatre song(memorized) and comfortable clothes(for dancing), socks, tap shoes (only for those doing tap audition - *not* required).

The Process

Pick up one of the audition sheets (they'll be sitting out in an obvious spot) and fill it out. What's your major? Do you have singing or dancing experience? Do you have any special skills or talents? Let us know! If you have any questions, ask around - any reauditioning member of the club would be glad to help you. Also, take this time to pick a song from the musical theatre books we have - chances are you'll be able to find what you're looking for. If you're more comfortable with your own music, feel free to bring in your own copy.

Hand in your sheet to one of the people below; they're the MTC Officers!

Chas Chris Amanda Debra

While you're waiting for the actual auditions to start, chat it up with the people around you, warm up your voice, or just relax and get to know the people around you. When all the sheets of have been collected, you'll get "assigned" seats - this is the order people go in for vocal auditions.

Wait until it's your turn, and then go up, tell us(and the people that haven't met you yet) your name, major, year, etc. Give the music you picked to one of pianists, and then do your thing. Get into it - you'll do better if you're having fun :)

After everyone is done, there's a quick break to change into dance clothes, get water, etc.

At this point, the officers will perform a bit of simple choreography to a song most people are familiar with - the choreography is seldom more than a minute and a half long. Then, everyone auditioning will join us, and we'll go through it step-by-step. Don't be nervous! We don't expect everyone to be a great dancer - just do your best and *have a good time*. If you're confused about a certain step, feel free to raise your hand and ask - chances are that someone else has the same question you do.

After everyone has learned the dance, the "stage" will be cleared, and people will be called up in groups of four. Again, like the vocal audition, don't be nervous - just try to have a good time. We'll play the song, and you'll go for it. If you forget a step, it's no big deal - keep going and do your best (we don't expect perfection at an audition)

That's it! Give yourself a pat on the back! Often, there's some sort of get-together after Friday auditions, and it's a great way to meet new people and get more familiar with the club.

Callbacks will be posted Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning at the Brodie Call Boards, which are located right outside the ballet studio. Additionally, they'll be posted online on the news and member sections of the site.
