The Newman Catholic Community of Geneseo is the Catholic Campus Ministry group at
SUNY Geneseo. Our office is located at the Interfaith Center, 11 Franklin Street. Our Weekday Masses are held at
the center as well. We are a large group with hundreds of students at mass every week and a large group that meets every Thursday for mass and dinner.
Mike Sauter serves at the Campus Catholic Minister. He has an M.A. in Theology and has worked in Catholic ministry, in various capacities, for over10 years. He is married and has 4 children who you might see at various Newman activites.
Fr. William Kamau and Fr. Edward Dillon serve as sacramental ministers to the Newman Community at the college as well as pastor several parishes, and prisons, in the Geneseo area.
Mary VanHouten serves the students of the Newman community as musician and choir director, and works with students on behalf of the Church in developing leadership in music ministry and liturgy. Please contact Mary if you have questions about the choir of 30+ students which travels and forms a little community within the community.
All of us are available to serve you. Contact us by clicking on our names and sending an e-mail. Also, feel free to call 243-1100 to be put in contact with one of the priests or 243-1460 to connect with Mike Sauter or Mary VanHouten.
Our Newman Community was founded here in 1964 by Fr. Tom Statt. Newman's
mission has been expanding ever since, including our present location at the Interfaith Center, which was
completed in 1969. We have been blessed with campus ministers dedicated to the Newman spirit.
Our faith community serves students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community of Geneseo. We offer a wide
variety of opportunities for everyone to share the gifts and talents given to them by God.
We are committed to student involvement in the Church, encouraging and supporting the call to vocations, and the
formation of quality lay leadership.
