| blogger One who writes a blog. |
| blogosphere The whole world of blogs on the web; refers to blogs and bloggers as a collective whole. |
| blogroll Links to other blogs. Commonly they are other weblogs recommended by the blog owner. |
| CMS (Content Management System) Software which automates the task of publishing and managing information on the web. |
| microcontent Small bits of data sent over the Internet. An instant message ("IM") is an example of microcontent. |
news aggregator (news reader) |
| RSS (Rich Site Summary) OR
(Really Simple Syndication) An XML format that presents a summary of a Web site for easy syndication. RSS feeds allow you to aggregate content from multiple news sources on your weblog. With a news reader (on your desktop or through your web browser), you can download and read the feeds in one place. |
| syndication Content from a web site distributed by an RSS feed and read by a news aggregator. Easiest way to publicize your weblog. |
| timestamp Indicates the date and/or time content was added to a weblog. |
| wiki A website, or any other type of web page, which allows the user to add content to the page or edit information already located on the web page. The term is also used to refer to the collaborative software which is used to create the web site. The Portland Pattern Repository was the first wiki ever created. |
| XML (Extensible Markup Language
) A computer metalanguage using tags (much like HTML) to define markup languages. It allows designers to create their own customized tags, enabling the definition, transmission, validation, and interpretation of data between applications and between organizations. |
