Using Information Delivery Services (IDS)
Purpose:
The Information Delivery Services office in Milne Library exists to borrow materials for students and faculty from other libraries. Use this service to obtain books, journal articles, sound recordings, DVDs, government documents and other materials which we do not own.
How do I register for an account?

1. Go to http://library.geneseo.edu and find "IDS" on the red navigation bar at the top of your screen:

2. Click on "Log in to IDS"
3. Enter your network username and password (this is the same username and password you use to log into the computers and your webmail).
4. Click "Ok" when the copyright notice pops up onscreen.
5. A blank registration form will appear if you have never registered for an IDS account. Fill out the form, making sure to answer all questions as completely as possible.
6. Click "Submit" when you are finished.
7. Once submitted, you will be directed to the "Main Menu" of your IDS Account.
8. You are now ready to use Information Delivery Services!

How do I request books and other materials through IDS?

There are a couple different ways to request items through IDS:
1. Log into your IDS Account and at the main menu, choose the correct type of request option:
-book, CD, DVD, government document
-journal article
-book chapter

2. A second way to request items is to do so directly from a catalog (such as WorldCat) or from a journal database (such as Communication Abstracts or Academic Search Premier):
WorldCat record
Academic Search Premier record
Communication Abstracts record

Look for the blue FIND TEXT button...
...and Click!

After clicking on the Find Text button, a popup window will appear with three different choices...

1. If Full Text is available, you will be able to click on a hyperlink and get access.

2. The second option is for you to check GLOCAT and see if we have the item in another format
(print journal, book, etc.)

3. The third option is to "Request Item through Information Delivery Services"
