Some tips for finding
Journal Articles in the Electronic Databases...
1.) When searching in an electronic database for journal articles,
you may want to specifically limit your search to document type
(i.e. "journal article" or "journal" ) from
an advanced search menu. Usually this is found under a LIMIT drop-down
menu.
2.) Use truncation symbols (*) to
expand on the different forms of a word.
EXAMPLE:
famil* returns results for family,
families, familial, familiar
Check the HELP menu of the database you are using to see what
symbol it uses for truncation. Most databases use an asterisk (*)
or an exclamation point (!).
3.) If you have a journal article
citation and are unsure of where to find the article, use Find
Text by Citation. This form allows you to type in the citation
and will link to the full-text of the article (IF AVAILABLE IN
THAT FORMAT!) or to GLOCAT to check for the print version of the
journal. If neither of these options are available, you will be
able to use Information Delivery Services to request the item. To
get to Find Text by Citation, go to the library's homepage, find
QUICK LINKS, Looking for Articles?, then use the drop-down menu
to select Find Text by Citation.
