HISTORY
Milne Library became a depository for New York State documents in 1962. Our status was officially redesignated as a "Documents Depository Library" in 1989. As a Documents Depository Library (one of four designations in the state depository system), Milne is responsible for collecting, processing, maintaining, and storing material sent to us by the depository program. This includes basic bibliographic tools sent to all libraries in the program, as well as materials from a core collection of documents which are listed in the New York State Document Depository Manual. Documents we receive at Milne include, but are not limited to, such items as annual reports of state agencies, legislative materials, statistical publications, bibliographies, consumer information, and directories.

CLASSIFICATION
New York State documents in Milne Library's collection used a different classification scheme up until 1991. Documents were identified with a prefix of "30-" to identify them as New York documents. Current New York State documents are classified by the three letter abbreviation for the state agency publishing the document.
