Some search tips when looking for blogs...

1. Use a search directory and look for weblogs by topic.

2. Use a search engine and try to find weblogs by typing in keywords in addition to the words weblog or blog.

For example, "travel blog" or "sports blog" in a search engine.

3. Start with one useful and recommended weblog, then find recommendations on that site to "jump to".

• Ratings are given by users/readers
• Commercial

Open Directory Project

• Searches both websites and blogs by category

Eatonweb Portal

• Has category for "Academic Blogs"
• No criteria is listed for inclusion in directory
• Lots of commercial and spam sites which aren't helpful

Blog Search Engine

• Annotated listings of blogs in categories
• Very commercial-oriented with lots ads

Blogdigger

• Able to search by media types
• Can search by who is linking to a particular blog (very helpful with evaluating authority of blogs)

BlogPulse

• Very useful search engine
• Can get information on trends and profiles of who the blogger is

Daypop

• Useful for searching posts on current events
• Not very good at topical blog searches

Google

• Advanced search capability
• Able to limit by date or by URL domain

NewsTrove

• Allows you to search by "viewpoint"
• Very useful results list

Technorati

• Excellent blog search engine
• Can search by "authority"
