INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students who have completed Engl 358, Major Authors: The Brontës will:
- know the broad outlines of the Brontës' lives;
- understand the relationship between the Brontës' lives and their works;
- understand the significant aspects of theme and structure in those works by the Brontës listed on the syllabus;
- understand those works by the Brontës listed on the syllabus in relation to broader contexts, such as the Victorian period in Britain, the history of British literature, and the general features of imaginative literature;
- be able to relate the lives and works of the Brontës to significant ideas and issues in feminism;
- know how to find, use, and properly acknowledge secondary sources for an essay of literary criticism;
- be able to deliver and evaluate a short oral report on a topic related to the course.
