This series of woodcut relief prints emerged from the BP Card Series of that same year. Tracing and transferring the linear composition of the cards directly to small blocks of pine, incising thin lines with a simple Japanese knife to yield a negative white onto positive black, flipping the resultant image to print another, reversing positive and negative, and finally exploring tonal background fields beneath black printed form produced groups of four variants.
