SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENT TEACHING REQUIREMENTS


Student teacher
expectations as agreed upon by the faculty:

Mandatory Requirements:

l. The student will follow the schedule of the cooperating teacher including attendance at faculty meetings, open houses and other similar professional meetings.

2. The student will complete a minimum of one week of student teaching with full responsibility for planning and teaching during that week.

3. The student will write lesson plans daily and weekly to represent instructional activities.

4. The student will do formal and/or informal evaluation of pupil skills.

5. The student will develop a prescriptive program or plan for remediation.

6. The student will systematically evaluate pupil progress in terms of daily instruction.

7. The student will develop an Instructional Unit or analogous Long-Range Planning project.

8. The student will write an Individual Education Program (I.E.P.).

9. The student will develop a systematic behavior change program for at least one student.

10. The student will use commercial and noncommercial materials during instruction.

11. The student will participate in a Committee on Special Education and I.E.P. meeting when permissible.

12. The student will perform self-evaluation of his/her own teaching skills.

13. The student will maintain a log which may be a report of critical events, personal observations, behavioral observations of students, personal experiences.

Supervisor responsibilities agreed upon by the faculty:

• The supervisor will do a written observation of the student teacher during each visit and give a copy to the student.

• The supervisor will provide each student with a course syllabi which includes student teaching requirements. ( A copy will be on file in the School of Education Office.)
