Digital video-streaming
service that provides access to 2,200 videos, 22,000 indexed video clips and 2,000
still images related to K-12 curricula.
Important: Quality of titles varies.
Social Studies titles should be carefully evaluated for balanced and
up-to-date coverage of a topic.
HOW TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT WHILE YOU ARE AT
GENESEO
After you graduate: You will often have access to this service through
the school where you teach as
part of the 'Video On
Demand’ program.
§
After clicking on the
‘live’ link at the top of this page, enter your Geneseo email username and
password as requested in box.
§
On the list that
appears, scroll down to Unitedstreaming and write
down the number provided under ‘create
your own account’ (DON’T SELECT SHARED ACCOUNT)
§
Click on ‘create your
own account’ link and enter the above number in the boxes in the center of the screen.
§
Fill in the
information to create your own account, then enter
your username and password under ‘Log In’ on the left side of the screen.
Click on ‘Advanced
Search’ and in the keyword search box, enter a
topic word such as 'democracy.' In the Subject box, select an appropriate
academic subject related to your keyword, in the case of ‘democracy,’ choose
‘Social Studies.’ You have the option to
limit to a grade level but it’s often best to view list of all videos about your
topic and if too many appear, then consider limiting
search to one or more grade levels.
SEARCH FOR A VIDEO IN
SPAN ISH OR A CAPTIONED VIDEO
Go to the Advanced Search
and scroll down to the bottom where you will see ‘Only Spanish titles’ or ‘Only
Captioned titles.’ To see all Spanish or
all Captioned titles, click ’Go.’ To
limit by grade level, subject and/or keyword, fill in appropriate search boxes.

Click on a video
title of interest. You will then have a choice of viewing the entire video or a
short clip from the video.
·
You may click on ‘s’ that precedes an entire video or video clip to stream
your video ‘LIVE’ over the web to your
computer.
·
You also have an
option to download the video to your computer so that you can view it whenever
you want and/or show it from your computer to pupils or your classmates or you
may download it and later transfer it to a CD or DVD to use for educational
purposes.

You can insert or download a video into a PowerPoint presentation
or a Web page. You must save video file in the same folder as the slide or webpage that will display the
video. See Help link in Unitedstreaming

or Steve Dresbach (dresbach.geneseo.edu) in the
library.
Note whether VIDEO IS ACCOMPANIED BY
TEACHING GUIDES OR BLACKLINE MASTERS Video description screen will tell you this.
Method 1:
·
Right-click on ‘d’ that precedes an entire video or a video clip.
·
Select ‘Save Target
as’ and remove underscore marks from video title or change title to one of your
own.
·
Before clicking on
‘Save,’ scan the box that says ‘Save in’ and decide where you want to save the
file (it’s a good idea to create a folder called ‘My videos’ and then navigate to where you want to
save it (when you are saving in a library workshop, save it to the
desktop).
·
When you want to view the video or download it to a CD
or DVD, navigate to the file where you saved it and right click, then select
‘Play’ or ‘Copy to CD or Device.’
·
You can insert a video into a PowerPoint presentation or a Web
page. You must save the video file in the same folder as the slide or
webpage that will display the video. See Help link in Unitedstreaming database and/or contact Barbara Clarke (clarke@geneseo.edu) or Steve Dresbach (dresbach.geneseo.edu) in the library.
Method 2:
·
Left-click on ‘d’ that precedes entire video or video clip.
·
Select ‘Open.’ When viewing box opens, you will have an
option to copy video onto a CD or other
portable recording device.

OR Select
‘Save.’ You will have option to save
file to desktop or elsewhere on your computer as in method 1 above. Remember to
remove underscore marks from title.
LEARN TO USE THE ASSIGNMENT BUILDER FEATURE
·
Click on the link to
‘Teacher Center ’ at the top of the Unitedstreaming
screen.
·
Scan ‘Sample
Assignments’ (may be under ‘Assignment Library’) for ideas.
·
Click on ‘Create New
Assignment’ and follow instructions.
·

Click on the link to
‘Learning Tools’ at the top of the Unitedstreaming
screen.
·
Click on “
·
Under Quiz Library,
click on ‘View All.’
·
Select any sample
quiz to see what it looks like.
·
Click on ‘Create New
Quiz’ to see how you might create a quiz for any video of your choosing.
IMPORTANT: You may print
out a quiz to distribute to your students or you may have your students answer
quizzes online so their quiz can be electronically graded.
Click on ‘Learning Tools’ to see Calendar feature.
