Here are two events you'll want to attend!

Friday, February 17, 8:00 pm, Union Ballroom. Ntozake Shange will give a dramatic reading as part of the African Roots in the Western hemisphere series. Shange has written novels, volumes of poetry, and a highly successful Broadway play, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf." Ticket prices range from $5 to $10 and are on sale at the Union Ticket Office (245-5873).

Tuesday, March 14, 8:00 pm, Union Ballroom. "Brown Women Who Fly" is the name of a theater company who will present an evening of poetry, song, and dance. The program is sponsored by the Womyn's Action Coalition in honor of the Year of African Roots; cosponsors are Accents, the Art Department, and Women's Studies. The brochure from the group describes their work:

With the extraordinary talents of five singer/actresses, Brown Women Who Fly
gives the audience am ariel view of the lives of today's Sistahs. Brown Women
Who Fly is a WomanSong--a finely woven garment made from our common stories
and idividual experiences...a GlobalSong--a testimony to the spirit of human
solidarity...A PraiseSong--a good feeling for anyone who has ever been touched by
our sister, mother, lover, friend spirit. There is a saying that goes: "Women hold
up half the sky." And we do. It is held up on our woman wings--just look up and
see!"

Incidentally, bringing in this group is an expensive project! If you know of any committee, department, or other group who can provide some financial contribution, call Noel Raley at the W.A.C. office (245-5889) or her home (243-5468).
