Events This Semester

A Panel Discussion on Gender Relations is being sponsored by the Mental Health Association of Livingston County on Monday, October 23, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hunt Room of MacVittie College Union. Featured speakers are Kim Cook of Chances and Changes, Peggy Feary of the Rape Crisis Service of Planned Parenthood, and Gail Wratny-Feathers of Catholic Family Center. All are welcome to attend!

Womyn's Action Coalition has invited faculty members who teach Women's Studies Courses to their meeting on Wednesday November 1, at 9:00 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge of the College Union. They would like to discuss some creative new ideas for the Women's Studies Minor that they have suggested. (For example, perhaps we should have a capstone, advanced-level course as the one required course for the minor, instead of the currently required introductory-level course.) Faculty members who have taught that introductory course, INTD 104, are particularly invited to attend!

Rosemary Agonito, a consultant on gender equity, will present a talk called "Nice Girls Finish Last," on Thursday, November 2, at 12:45 p.m. in Newton 204. Dr. Agonito is the author of a book called No More "Nice Girl", on women in the workplace, and she presented a wonderful lecture on a related topic about 10 years ago at Geneseo. We plan to have lunch with her before the talk (11:30-12:30) at China House. Please call Stacey Edgar at 245-5231 if you would like to join us for lunch.

Ninotchka Rosca, a Filipina writer and activist, will be speaking as part of the Contemporary Forum Series on Tuesday, November 14, at 8:00 p.m. in the College Union Ballroom. She has been active in such organizations as the International Women's Committee, Amnesty International, and Women's International Network for Democracy in El Salvador.

The Livingston County League of Women Voters will offer another presentation of their wonderful program on the history of women's right to vote. Some of you saw their presentation in September; this repeat performance is sponsored by the Association for the Preservation of Geneseo (APOG). It will take place on Wednesday, November 15, at 8:00 p.m. in the County Courthouse on Court Street in Geneseo. All are invited to attend!
