Office of Diversity and Equity - Mission
The Office of Diversity and Equity is committed to assisting and supporting SUNY Geneseo in its mission and goals which include valuing and fostering diversity and Title IX compliance. The Office works to ensure that the college community understands and complies with all federal and state laws relating to employment, affirmative action and Title IX. The Office of Diversity and Equity works in concert with the Diversity Commission, the President's Affirmative Action Council, Human Resources and other campus entities to create a climate favorable to the success and development of employees of the College.
To achieve these goals, the Office has the following four major responsibilities:
The Affirmative Action Office addresses issues of compliance with federal and state employment laws and applicable SUNY Policies and Procedures for all College employees. At SUNY Geneseo, Office of Diversity and Equity is responsible for administering the SUNY Discrimination Complaint Procedure for Review of Allegations of Unlawful Discrimination/Harassment.
Responsible for the University’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, including but not limited to, systematically monitoring and evaluating policy and procedures that effectively and efficiently respond to complaints of sex discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual assault, and to ensure that all students have equal educational opportunity.
Recruitment and Outreach:
The Office of Diversity and Equity works to assist departments in diversifying applicant pools and in the advertising and outreach process. The Office informs all departments of applicable hiring goals pursuant to the Affirmative Action Plan prior to beginning each search. In addition, the Office of Diversity and Equity briefs all search committees, provides relevant materials for review, and provides on-going assistance during the search in concert with the hiring manager.
Training and Seminars:
The Office of Diversity and Equity provides on-going campus training and seminars on federal and state employment laws, sexual harassment prevention, diversity, recruitment and retention, and related areas. The Office is available to assist departments in addressing specific workplace issues and also provides mediation services to departments and work groups.
