ADMISSION TO THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS


In order to major in Accounting, Business Administration, or Economics, students must apply for and be admitted to the School of Business. The application process normally occurs during the sophomore year. Prior to being admitted to the School of Business, students are in pre-major status. As a pre-major, students can take 100- level and 200-level classes offered by the Business School. In order to take 300-level or 400-level business, accounting or economics classes, however, a student must be admitted to the School as a major.

 

 

WHEN TO APPLY:

For the Accounting or Business Administration majors, a pre-major can apply for admission into the School of business when s/he has satisfied the criteria below:

1. Completed at least 36 hours of coursework, with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better.

2. Completed the following eight courses with 2.85 GPA or better.

a. Calculus (Math 213 or MATH 221, 4 hrs.)

b. Introductory Microeconomics (ECON 110, 3 hrs.)

c. Intro to Financial Accounting (ACCT 102, 3 hrs.)

d. Business and Economics Statistics (ECON 205, 3 hrs.)

e. Intro to Managerial Accounting (ACCT 103, 3hrs.)

f. Introductory Macroeconomics (ECON 112, 3hrs.)

g. Information Technology for Business (MGMT 250, 3 hrs.)

h. Business law (MGMT 263, 3hrs.)

To apply, a student must submit an application packet by October 1 or March 1 to the School of Business.

 

DECISION CRITERIA:

The admission decision for the Accounting and Business Administration major is based on:

1. A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better

2. A GPA of 2.85 or higher in the eight courses (25 credits) outlined above.

3. Completion of all required Freshman and Sophomore PD events.

4.  In addition, students must submit a resume and memo (see application instruction sheet).

      

WHEN TO APPLY:

For the Economics major, a pre-major can apply for admission into the School of Business when s/he has satisfied the following criteria:

1. Completed at least 36 hours of coursework, with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better.

2. Completed or be registered for the following 16 hours of coursework.

a. Calculus (MATH 213 or MATH 221, 4 hours)

b. Business and Economics Statistics (ECON 205, 3 hrs.)

c. Introductory Microeconomics (ECON 110, 3 hrs.)

d. Introductory Macroeconomics (ECON 112, 3 hrs.)

e. Intermediate Micro (Econ 210, 3 hrs.) OR Intermediate Macro (Econ 212, 3 hrs.)

 

To apply, a student must submit an application form by October 1 or March 1 to the School of Business.

 

DECISION CRITERIA:

The admission decision for the Economics major is based on:

1. A cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.

2. A GPA of 2.85 or higher in the five courses (16 credit) outline in item 2 above.

3. Completion of all required Freshman and Sophomore PD events.

4.  In addition, students must submit a resume and memo (see application instruction sheet).
