Interviewing & Attire

An interview is a conversation. Ideally, it is a mutually informative dialogue from which both parties benefit. As the candidate, you should use the interview as an opportunity to communicate your background and experiences and show why you’re qualified for the job (or internship). The interviewer will use the conversation to see if you meet the basic requirements of the position and to get a sense of whether you’re the right “fit” for the role, which can be just as important as whether you meet the job’s basic requirements.

Encore - Free Professional Clothing Closet

Encore-SUNY Geneseo Career Closet

How it Works (it's free!)

The purpose of Encore is to assist students who need professional attire for career-related occasions such as job/internship/graduate school interviews, job fairs, networking events, etc. Using Encore items for purposes other than those mentioned and/or approved by the Department of Career Development are prohibited. Encore is open during drop-in hours and is staffed by our Career Mentors. Students are welcome to drop in during these times or make an appointment at a time that works best for them.

Encore hosts both Men's and Women's professional dress items in a full range of sizes. From pants, dress shirts, belts, ties, to suits, skirts, dresses, and blazers the Department of Career Development has you covered! Students will be allowed to browse the closet and try on possible items. Our helpful and friendly staff will assist each student with the best possible outfit choice for their event.

Students will then select their items, agree to and sign the Rental Agreement. All rentals are for a maximum of five days from the date of the event for which they were borrowed. Only one full outfit (as defined by the contract below) will be available to a student at a time. Once the item(s) are returned the student is free to rent again from the closet. If an item is not returned in the designated time, or not in the original condition upon being loaned out, there may be fees incurred by the student.
