On November 18, 2010, students, faculty, and staff in the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences, along with the greater college community, were informed by the President of SUNY Geneseo that in an effort to close a 7.2 million dollar college-wide budget deficit, the undergraduate and graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology (along with two other academic programs) were being "deactivated." Due to these actions we will no longer be admitting new students to either the undergraduate or graduate programs. Students enrolled at the time this decision was made have been afforded the opportunity to finish out the program and earn their degrees. Speech and language clinical services are no longer available to the community and the program will officially close at the end of the 2013-2014 academic year.
Faculty and staff in the program have been deeply moved by the outpouring of support received from students, alumni, clients of the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinics, the greater Geneseo community, and those in the profession. Having educated students and served the community for over 50 years, we are truly disheartened by this abrupt and unexpected decision.
