Feb 18 update: The start of student org gatherings has been delayed to 3/15/21 in response to the current infection rate.
All campus events and gatherings will adhere to the following New York State guidelines and the Cluster Action Initiative. The health and safety of all SUNY Geneseo community members and the surrounding area are paramount. Most traditionally held in-person events will be virtual in the spring of 2021.
All campus events and gatherings will comply with the following guidelines while the College and surrounding area are NOT categorized as YELLOW, ORANGE, or RED.
College-sponsored small group activities will adhere to NYS group-size limits (currently less than 50 people, and no more than 25% of maximum occupancy for indoor1 or no more than 33% of the maximum occupancy for outdoor2), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and New York State guidelines. A phased plan will be followed for student organization meetings, rehearsals, and practices (See Event and Gathering Classification #2 for the phased plan).
Department and employee small-group meetings that adhere to NYS group-size limits (currently less than 50 people, and no more than 25% of maximum occupancy for indoor1) and the CDC and NYS guidelines may be held.
For all in-person events and gatherings, Geneseo campus community members are expected to practice personal prevention: hand washing or sanitizing, staying home when sick, wearing a mask, and maintaining 6-feet of physical distance.
For Spring 2021, all events and gatherings will be limited to SUNY Geneseo community members and vendors who directly supply or support events.
Event and Gathering Classifications
1) Lowest risk: Virtual-only activities, events, and gatherings.
- Geneseo will continue to support and offer virtual events through virtual programming methods and social media that build connections and add to the Geneseo experience.
- Registered student organizations are expected to conduct executive board and general body meetings and activities virtually with the option to submit a plan for small group activities. (See Event and Gathering Classification #2, below, for the phased plan.)
- Guest presenters/lecturers must be conducted virtually.
2) More risk: Smaller outdoor and in-person gatherings in which individuals from different households remain spaced at least 6 feet apart, wear cloth face masks, and do not share objects.
Student Events and Gathering Phased Plan (In compliance with DOH, NYS, and CDC)
Phase 1 (2/8/21 - 3/15/21)
- In-person student organization events will be on hold from 2/8/21 through 3/15/21. For guidance with on-campus cultural and religious observances during this time frame, please contact Student Life at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- During this time, registered student organizations and Moderate-risk/Lower-risk club sports can develop and submit their plans for small-group activities that adhere to NYS group-size limits and the CDC and NYS guidelines.
- These plans can be submitted to the Event Review Committee starting 2/8/21 (template provided by Student Life) in order to host small-group events
- These plans will be reviewed by the Event Review Committee beginning 3/11/21.
- Approved plans for events and gatherings may begin starting 3/15/21, dependent on student infection rates.
- Registered student organizations planning small-group events and gatherings will need to meet with Student Life to review and confirm proper precautions to help protect against the spread of COVID-19.
Phase 2 (3/15/21 - 5/12/21)
- Registered student organizations may host events as long as they comply with the institution’s current safety measures and policies, and the proposed plan has been approved the Event Review Committee.
- Failure to adhere to the submitted plan and NYS and CDC guidelines and comply with the institution's current safety measures and policies may result in revocation of registration or other sanctions consistent with the college’s Student Code of Conduct.
3) Highest risk: Medium and large in-person gatherings where it is difficult for individuals to remain spaced at least 6 feet apart and attendees from outside the local area.
- Events of this nature will be prohibited during the spring semester.
- Performances linked to an academic course will be planned in consultation with Academic Affairs.
- Students are encouraged to take advantage of good weather conditions and the campus’s beautiful outdoor spaces to study.
- Students may use designated and accessible indoor spaces to study while adhering to no more than 25% of maximum occupancy and engaging in personal prevention: handwashing, staying home when sick, wearing a mask, and maintaining 6-feet of physical distance.
- Student organization travel for activities that are related to the mission and purpose of the group will be limited to the Finger Lakes Region as outlined by NYS for Spring 2021, and must be approved through Student Life.
Student Organization Fundraising
- Registered student organizations interested in hosting in-person fundraisers must adhere to the procedures and guidelines outlined in the Student Events and Gathering Phased Plan.
- Student organization fundraisers should utilize electronic money exchange.
- Student club sports will be limited for Spring 2021 in compliance with Reopening New York Sports and Recreation Guidelines, and in congruence with NCAA and SUNYAC protocols.
- A phased plan will be followed for student club sports that meet the NYS descriptions of Moderate-risk sports and Lower-risk sports. (See Event and Gathering Classification #2 for the phased plan.)
- Student Association will be consulted for student club sports that they fund and/or insure.
- Student club sports that meet the NYS description of Higher-risk sports will not be allowed as per Reopening New York Sports and Recreation Guidelines.
- Competitive tournaments of multiple games, meets, matches, or scrimmages requiring travel will not be allowed as per Reopening New York Sports and Recreation Guidelines.
Use of College Facilities by External Organizations
(youth hockey, blood drive, etc.)
- Events of this nature will be determined by the individual with oversight of the facility being requested in consultation with Scheduling and Special Events, Health and Counseling, and the Vice President of the area.
