What is the ESOL Program?

  • The ESOL Program at SUNY Geneseo is designed to assist international and domestic students whose first language is not English.  The Program  assists students in building on their language skills to fully succeed in their academic programs.

What services does the ESOL Program offer?

  • The ESOL Program offers a variety of services tailored to assist students with their written and oral communication.  Services include:  Tutoring, Speech Buddies, and Writing Courses.

What courses are offered?

  • Two writing courses are offered each semester.  Writing 101 (English Language and Culture I) (3 credit hours) and Writing 201 (English Language and Culture II) (3 credit hours). INTD 110 (1 credit hour) and INTD 130 (3 credit hours) are also offered.

How can tutoring help me?

  • Tutoring can help you with your writing skills, with your class presentations, and with your study skills.

Do I need an appointment for tutoring?

  • Please contact the Milne Center for Academic Excellence for information about appointments and walk-in hours.

Who is a Speech Buddy?

  • Speech Buddies are students trained to provide their ESOL peers with individual support to help improve their English language skills and adapt to the new learning and social environment of Geneseo.
