Hi everyone,

My name is Faye (Yuanfei) Zhang! I am a mental health counseling trainee and I am currently a second year student finishing my master degree in mental health counseling at the University of Rochester.  Originally I am from a different cultural background, and have been studying in the US for 6 years. During my study here, I am always curious and humble when I am learning about various cultures and experiences. I apply the same philosophy into my counseling work. I appreciate this opportunity to work in the college mental health counseling setting where I hope to further explore my counseling orientation and grow as a mental health counseling professional.

I see counseling as an opportunity to reconcile with the past and a chance and a challenge to step outside one's comfort zone to embrace a brighter future. I have interest in applying modern psychodynamic approaches and process based cognitive behavioral models (such as DBT and ACT) within a brief treatment model. I view counseling as an interpersonal process where my role is to create a safe, honest, respectful, and inclusive environment where clients are able to grow, come to know themselves more deeply, and find ways to relieve their current struggles.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with my friends and family.
