Hello! I am Karen Mach, Executive Director of Student Health and Counseling at SUNY Geneseo. I have over 20 years of experience in higher education, both in academics and college health and counseling.

Even though I ultimately have loved my own journey as a student, it did not start out that way. When I first went to college at age 17, I had just lost my father the previous month. As you can imagine, the transition to college life was not smooth. I had no idea where to go for help I needed at the time, and I ended up leaving after the first semester. I returned a few years later and it was then that I fell in love with higher education. When I later became an administrator of a college counseling center, I came to realize that I was in a position that could help shape an environment where students and their families know where to find the help and resources they need. The safety and care of students, as well as the academic success and development of them in their educational journey is a passion and it brings me great joy to work with SUNY Geneseo students and families.

In my time outside of work I enjoy boating on Canandaigua Lake, traveling with my husband, spending time with my daughter and stepdaughter (who are both grown), volunteering at Genesee Country Village and Museum, and watching the Buffalo Bills.

Do not hesitate to reach out to me!
