Welcome to SUNY Geneseo's Addiction Counseling and Prevention (ACP) Program. My name is Pam Kosmowski. I have been a mental health practitioner for over 12 years and have been working with substance use for over 3 years. Whether working with students individually, or providing campus-wide programming, I am committed to empowering SUNY Geneseo students to make healthy lifestyle choices surrounding substance use. Through all programs and services, I strive to engage the community and build collaborations that will ensure a safe campus environment for all. The ACP program is built on a foundation of evidence-based prevention and harm-reduction approaches that ask students to explore the how and why behind their behaviors and give them the tools necessary to support their overall wellbeing.

As a therapist, I find myself drawn to Emotion-Focused Therapy, which focuses on personality and relationships. Understanding adult attachment and family bonds can help a client understand their current relationships, as well as past relationships. The EFT model prioritizes emotion and emotional regulation as the key organizing agents in individual experience and key relationship interactions. Sticking with relationships, I like to utilize Bowen’s genogram as an intervention for understanding relational patterns in one’s life.

Fun Facts About Me:
I have a black belt in tae kwon do and I am currently practicing karate. I love to be outside, whether it’s hiking, skiing, or riding my motorcycle.
